According to the statistics of 2007, China, United States of America, Iran and Turkey are the important walnut cultivators in the world.

As China’s – which is in the first rank in the world with an average production of 500.000 tones – walnut production is usually met by the varieties grown through the seeds, there is a standardization issue. Whereas, whole of USA’s walnut production comes from the enclosure walnut nurseries, and even the production amount of the varieties are known. Although USA was in the first rank in 1980-1994s in respect of walnut production, China’s production got ahead of USA’s production from 1944. When the production values of the important countries in the world, which cultivates walnut, is reviewed by year, a general increase is observed except France. When the change in world’s walnut cultivation areas is reviewed by year, a significant change is not observed. However, in Turkey and Mexico, an increase in plantation areas is observed.
